Abstract
The Expressive Therapies Continuum (ETC) dimension of Art Therapy focused on the ability to process cognitive and emotional information. To date there was limited research on the effectiveness of the ETC framework regarding attachment in the adolescent population. The primary purpose of this Quantitative/Qualitative study was to evaluate the ETC’s effectiveness to (a) reduce aggression in adolescents who are diagnosed with attachment disorders living in a residential psychiatric facility, and (b) aid the participant in identifying aggressive emotional states which may be measureable through a five point Likert scale and questionnaires. This research study will provide insight on how art, through the elements of the ETC, may impact the emotional understanding of self in residential adolescents with attachment disorders.
