    Abstract
Theology is the expression of a people's relationship to God and God to them. The Black approach to theology is rooted in a positive self-identification and affirms Black history and includes this people's destiny in faith. Thus, to speak of Black in the context of the Church is to view Black Americans as a people who have their own history, who have their own expressions, traditions, and culture. Being Black in this country and in the Church in America can give a profound validity to a singular understanding of racism and to the value of their contribution in dealing with it. This experience gives Blacks a highly sensitive perspective of Christian life.
