Abstract
Art therapy is a profession that engages a person’s creative spirit to help solve problems, understand self and others, and helps individuals visualize what cannot be easily communicated verbally. This arts-based research (ABR) looks at the lived experience of making response art in the midst of pandemic restrictions to in-person engagement. I reviewed recent shifts in professional art therapy practice that have occurred in how art therapists have been able to interface with their clients since the advent of Covid-19, and how those shifts have impacted art therapists’ ability to create response art. It is expected that this study will inform new art therapists how practicing art therapists believe response art helps deepen an understanding of their clients, and the contexts in which their response art is made.
