Abstract
In trying to understand the purpose and function of the Divine office one can overlook an important but subtle double meaning. The Liturgy of the Hours is called the Prayer of the Church not only because it is traditional, biblical, and officially approved, but also because it prays for and anticipates the Church’s spiritual fulfillment. In a word, the Prayer of the Church contains within it what the Church prays for. This project records the realization of this truth in the development of a small Christian community.
