dc.description.abstract | The author has been involved in the world of child welfare for 30 years. Five things happened within a six-year span that set the stage for the author's life work and mission, to work at several levels in assistance to families and children who have experienced foster care. The author became a foster parent and adopted a child, started teaching independent living skills to youth in foster care, became a foster parent trainer;,and started working for an agency providing in-home support and education to the families who abused or neglected their children, some of whom were in foster care. Through all of these roles the author impacted many families and children. There was so much knowledge the author gained through these experiences and observations that the author wanted to share with others to have a positive impact on even more families and children. | |
